Short Bio: Brian D. Wassom is a partner in the law firm of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, and chairs the firm’s Social, Mobile and Emerging Media Practice Group. He is a litigation attorney whose practice focuses on intellectual property and other complex commercial disputes. In particular, he litigates disputes and counsels clients ranging from Fortune 50 companies to startups concerning copyright, trademark, publicity rights, privacy, and related intellectual property and advertising issues. One of Brian’s victories in the federal appeals court broke new ground in the application of copyright law to digital images and was hailed as a “top case of the year” by multiple publications. He is consistently listed in the publications Michigan Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America, and dBusiness Top Lawyers. Brian presents regularly to industry groups, legal education seminars, and conferences across the country on intellectual property, digital media, and related topics. He has published dozens of articles, essays, and ebooks on these legal areas, and his work has appeared in such publications as Forbes, the Syracuse Law Review, Fordham Intellectual Property & Media & Entertainment Law Journal, the Journal of Arts Management, Law & Society, Mashable, and many others. Since 2011, Brian has authored a popular blog on emerging media law at Wassom.com that features Augmented Legality®, the first regular publication devoted to the law governing augmented reality. In December 2014, Elsevier published his full-length treatise Augmented Reality Law, Privacy and Ethics, the first book on this cutting-edge digital technology.
